Bahçeşehir was designed as a garden town, and the pond park at its heart, with walking paths and cafés, is still the centre of local life. Streets are quieter than in most of Istanbul, with villas and low-rise sites in the older parts and taller complexes on the edges. Schools and shops are close by, but the centre of Istanbul is far, so test your commute at rush hour.
What to look for
For villas, check the title deed, the condition of older buildings and whether any additions are licensed. For apartments, compare site fees (aidat), facilities, the building's age and its earthquake compliance. Also ask how security, parking and garden upkeep are handled in the complex. Neighbouring Başakşehir and Esenyurt offer more new-build choice.
