Akçaabat is a coastal district just west of central Trabzon, famous across Turkey for its köfte. It combines a lively seafront town with green hills and villages above it, and suits families and summer-home buyers who want sea views and a slightly slower pace than the city.

Akçaabat has its own town centre, with a seafront promenade, shops, schools and the köfte restaurants that draw visitors from across the region. The coast road links it to central Trabzon, so the city is within easy reach outside rush hour. Behind the town, the land rises quickly into green hills and villages, where detached houses with gardens and wide views are more common, and the higher villages lead on to highland plateaus that come alive in summer.
In the town and along the coast you will mostly find apartments; on the slopes, detached houses and land. For a sea-view apartment, ask whether future buildings could block the view. On the hills, drive the access road in wet weather and check the distance to schools and shops. Browse apartments in Trabzon or read about the other Trabzon districts.

Trabzon is an excellent base for day trips: Sümela Monastery clinging to a cliff in Maçka, Uzungöl lake, highland plateaus such as Hıdırnebi, nearby Sera Lake, the Atatürk Mansion in the city, Çal Cave and, a little further, the Ayder plateau in Rize. The best time for the plateaus is June to September; set off early during the summer holidays to avoid the crowds.

Akçaabat is a coastal district west of central Trabzon, with its own centre, markets and character, and it is famous for Akçaabat köfte (meatballs). It combines flats in the centre and along the coast with villas and houses on the hills with sea views. It suits those who want the coast, relative calm and a wider choice between a flat and a villa, with access to central Trabzon via the coastal road; the airport is a little further away than from Yomra.

Sea views in Trabzon are common on the hills overlooking the coast in Ortahisar, Yomra and Akçaabat, and on the upper floors of coastal projects. An open view raises the price and speeds up sale and letting, but it is only worth as much as it is lasting. Before buying, check the zoning status (imar durumu) of the plots in front of the property, ask how high they may be built, and visit the apartment yourself or by live video to see the view from inside, not from photos.
